Canvas Connector / Local setup

Keep Canvas
on your computer.

Hand this prompt to an AI agent that can set up software on your computer. No Built by Aadi account needed.

We strongly recommend local setup if you prefer to keep your Canvas token on your own device. It avoids storing the token with the hosted beta. Your computer, assistant permissions, and configuration still need care.

Let your agent
help with setup.

Copy this into Codex, Claude Code, or another agent with access to your computer. It contains instructions, not credentials.

Keep your real Canvas token out of the prompt. Your agent should guide private entry when it reaches that step.

Have your Canvas details ready.

  1. Find your school’s Canvas address.

Open Canvas as usual and copy its HTTPS origin, such as https://school.instructure.com. Leave off the course path, query, and any sign-in link.

  2. Create a personal token, if your school allows it.

In Canvas, open Account → Settings. Under Approved Integrations, look for New Access Token. Choose a purpose and an expiration you are comfortable with. If the option is missing or disabled, your school may restrict token creation; this setup cannot enable it.

  3. Enter it only in the private setup field.

Canvas normally shows a newly generated token once. Treat it like a password. Follow your assistant’s secure settings or the local setup runner, and revoke the token in Canvas when you no longer use it.

Your local connector sends the token to your Canvas server to authenticate requests. The assistant receives the course information you request, rather than the token. Local installation does not bypass school permissions.

Prefer the steps yourself?

Choose your assistant for desktop extensions, local plugins, or personal ChatGPT tunnel instructions. ChatGPT’s personal tunnel requires your computer to remain running and the appropriate OpenAI account access.
